Assess the process

Ask for the draft, the notes, the discarded idea, the revision log. A finished paragraph is easy to generate; a documented trail of thinking is not.

Localise the task

Anchor work in this class, this week, this town, this data set you collected together. Generic prompts get generic answers from anywhere.

Use it openly

Let students generate a weak answer and then critique it against a rubric. Evaluation is a harder skill than production, and it cannot be outsourced to the thing being evaluated.
